Regular readers of this blog will remember that at the end of last year, I asked you to vote for me in the Dating category in the UK Blog Awards. I’m aware that I don’t have the largest following so I wasn’t expecting to win, but I thought it would be great to get on the shortlist, get a bit of publicity, and attend the event and meet other cool bloggers. That was what I wanted, and thanks to people very kindly voting, that’s what I got.
But then, something amazing happened. I won the award.

It was Valentine’s Day yesterday. This post may have been better going live then, but I may have had a date that night, got a little distracted and forgot to post (sorry). For some of you, Valentine’s Day may have meant celebrating with your partner, exchanging gifts, and generally feeling smug. Some of you single folk may have got organised and planned a single friends meal out or signed up for a dating event, feeling ready to enjoy the evening despite lacking a bae. Others may have been stuck at home, reenacting the “all by myself” scene in Bridget Jones’ Diary, or just generally feeling miserable.
If you fell into the third category, I have a suggestion. WHY NOT BUY YOURSELF A SEX TOY?!

Right guys, I’m up for an award.
The UK Blog Awards essentially do what it says on the tin- they are there to recognise and celebrate the best in blogging. One thing I love about the awards is that they’re so diverse; rather than just the usual fashion, beauty, and lifestyle blogs, there are categories for marketing, automotive, and of course DATING (although sadly there is no sex category- THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE!). Overall though it’s great to see blogs and vlogs outside the main clique get recognised. They also have categories for individual and company influencers.

Last week, there was what was referred to as the “Christmas party” of the dating industry- the UK Dating Awards.
The UK Dating Awards were set up in 2014 by Charly Lester, the author of the #1 dating blog at the time The 30 Dates Blog. She noticed that there weren’t really any awards to celebrate the best of the dating industry- for example, in blogging, she’d often have to enter the general “lifestyle” category as there wasn’t a category for dating blogs. So she set up the awards to provide some form of recognition for the best in the industry, but more importantly, to gather everyone together to network have a great evening.

So I was nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award by Samantha over at Sami Talks Beauty. I literally had no idea what this was, but upon reading the post I discovered that the premise was you have to write 7 facts about yourself, then nominate 15 other bloggers to do the same. Pretty cool, right?

For those of you unfamiliar with the concept (which I was up until I got nominated), The Liebster Award the brainchild of The Global Aussie- the aim is to help smaller bloggers grow and discover new blogs. If you are nominated for the award, you must answer all the questions set by the nominator, then nominate other bloggers, and so it spreads.
I was nominated for the award by the lovely Travel Bear, a travel and lifestyle blogger who seems to share by bad luck in dating. I then also got nominated by fellow dating blogger Eve Greenow, so decided to make this post into a bit of a fusion between the two sets of questions.

Warning: TMI. If you’re a man, related to me, or just easily offended you might want to click away.
We’ve all got to do it. Well, all of us with a cervix have to at least. What am I talking about? Cervical screening of course. The smear test. Or “pap smear” if you’re American. That dreaded letter you get just before you turn 25.
A quick overview for those unfamiliar with the test. The cervical screening test is to detect whether there are any abnormal cells in the cervix, which if untreated could lead to cervical cancer. If the test detects abnormal cells- you can then get them removed, and- yay!- you don’t get cervical cancer! Great right? In the test itself, a plastic instrument called a speculum is inserted into the vagina to open it up so the nurse can find your cervix, then a small brush is used to take the cells. Sounds really scary but it’s not as bad as it seems, honestly!

So this blog has been up and running for a few months now, and I’ve managed to share quite a few of my own views regarding the topic of dating. However, today I’m going to share something a bit different.
One of the things I love about blogging is that it’s interactive. It’s not just about posting an article then fucking off. It’s about interacting on social media, going to events, discovering other cool blogs, and meeting other cool bloggers. So here’s a shoutout to some other great dating writers I think you should be following.

I’m Alice, a London-dwelling twenty-something who may quite possibly have the worst luck in relationships out of any human being alive. So I decided to write a blog about it.
In school, I was the class freak. Super-clever, super-shy, frizzy hair, braces, and a foot taller than everyone else, I was completely invisible to the male population, unless they were taking the piss.
